HEMOGLOBINOPATHIES DIAGNOSTIC: NEW TOOLS,
NEW VISION
Saturday, May 11, 2013 | 12:00PM - 1:45PM
Civic Ballroom South
Moderator: Cornelis Harteveld
No substantial innovations have arisen recently in the field of
hemoglobinopathies diagnosis. This diagnosis relies primarily
on separation and accurate quantification of hemoglobin A2,
F and variants.
By attending this workshop you will learn how the new Sebia
Capillarys HbA1c assay has become an indirect but strong
medical added value for the mass screening of hemoglobin
disorders. Lecture by Ross Molinaro (Emory University
Hospital, Atlanta US) will show how the high resolution
separation and the accurate quantitation of HbA2 offered
Capillarys HbA1c assay allow for the incidental detection
of hemoglobinopathies and thalassemia during the follow-
up/diagnosis of diabetic patients, thus providing precious
information to his colleague Hematologist. You will also
learn how a pioneer, Andrew Mc Farlane (Hamilton Regional
Laboratory Medicine Program, Hamilton, Canada) has
made the choice of Capillarys Hemoglobin as his primary
hemoglobinopathy screening method. He will share with
the audience his long experience with CAPILLARYS 2 Flex
Piercing and expose all benefits brought by this technology
for the diagnosis of hemoglobin disorders through a case-
based approach.
Finally in the field of Thalassemia diagnosis, Sebia recent
partner of the INSERM U779 (Institut National de la Sante
et de la Recherche Medicale, France) for the development
of a unique assay for the quantification of the free alpha
hemoglobin chains will open the dialogue with the audience, in
order to evaluate the potential use of this assay in specialized
laboratories (Marie-Thérèse Melki, Sebia).
